Lessons I’m learning for next time:

  • Pack laundry detergent sheets in carry-on luggage. The industrial strength detergent here is overwhelming (though lovely of the host to provide in his AirBnB, along with everything else you could think of.)
  • Use MyBaggage again. Customs was easier because MyBaggage had walked me through ev-er-y-thing!
  • Send the box earlier, and don’t wait to send it on the Friday of a holiday weekend in your destination country. It’s taking a week.  (The people at MyBaggage and Customs have been lovely. It’s just that to be able to carry all the electronics for a research trip, I needed to ship my clothes and shoes.)
  • Do make sure to put an AirTag in the box. It’s actually been fun tracking the box.
  • Don’t eat so much soda bread all at once!  Do what Mary O’Toole tells you. Slice it, put parchment between the slices and put it  in the freezer. Yes it’s been ages and ages since you’ve had any, but you won’t feel good and won’t have room for all the other good food.
  • To make a call, at least from Ireland, on your phone, press 00 first, then 353, then you’re good to go. Including in the elevator, should you need it.
  • Get a tour guide and ask all your questions – even how to make a call on your phone. Tell them everything. They have sources, ideas and will take you to places you didn’t think to ask about, but you told them something that triggered their idea.
  • READ THE CORRECT AIR TAG!  Otherwise, you think your box has arrived and it hasn’t!
